What Traficant did is tantamount to a cop accepting cash or a sexual favor in lieu of issuing a traffic ticket. We wouldn't condone that would we?

The Question is absurd for a couple reasons. First and foremost, if you had an iota of politics or just the law in general, you would know that a felon cannot run for political office. Second should you really be asking people to show their ignorance in putting a convicted felon back in office where he committed the felonies to begin with?
Let's give the man his due on projects he accomplished for the valley, that may make him a nice person to have as a neighbor, but do you really want someone who knowingly broke the law to be in office again? Let's take it to the absurd level. What you are saying is that because he did some good things for the valley, and he might very well be a good person, we should ignore the fact that he broke laws he knew were laws and feels no remorse for them. Compare that to the gang leader that pimps the ho's and sells the crack to the dealers. Except for breaking laws he knows are laws, he is upstanding in the community. He takes his family to church every weekend, he has donated to St. Elizabeths, he helped clean up a ball park and bought the lights so they can play at night. What is the difference? both did nice things, and both knowingly broke the law. Are white crimes better than other crimes? Think people before you make a mockery out of this area once again and say you are going to vote in a convicted felon.
The funny thing is these people then have the audacity to wonder why the valley is the cesspool it is. Why it can't attract new businesses.
Actually much of the reason the Valley is such a cesspool is because of the Democrats running this area. As they raise taxes to fund their ridiculous spending, jobs are lost and business refuse to set up shop here.
You can't blame Bush for this Valley's terrible economy, you can blames the Donkeys for the past 50 years....
And yet, I'd still vote for Traficant over Tim Ryan?
Why? Because he is a maverick thinker and can be thanked for a lot of good in our community.

He's a convicted felon, I don't think he should be eligible to run for any public office. Although, he's still be better than Tim Ryan, who's only accomplishment in Congress is wearing very nice suits!
Breaking News: The second we stop flocking to the theater to see Tom Cruise, there's no Tom Cruise. Likewise, the second we stop talking about Traficant, he goes away. How do we expect the characterization of this area to ever change if we keep bringing up(and nominating) the political titans who have stumbled.

Ok, listen, Randall Wellington is listed on the congressional record amongst the people who took money from Strollo for his election, yet half of you morons voted him into office. I love that a political conversation can take place here every once in a while, but what sickens me is that these message boards are no longer political conversations with a positive outcome in mind, they are just a bunch of opinions of those who sit behind a monitor and do nothing about the wrong that is happening right before their eyes.
Why would any state or federal gov't entity, not to mention any big business partner want to help Youngstown when they can't even help themselves. Get your heads out of your A*#'s
Randall Wellington is indeed on the congressional record amongst people who took money from Strollo...so what. Obama took money from Tony Rezko...is he a crook too? Wellington's name was only mentioned in a sworn affidavit from Strollo, who was already facing serious prison time...he would have said anything to knock a few years off his sentence. So, if you voted for Obama, based on that logic, your a moron too!

hope for an economic turn around. The voters in the 17th district better vote for him in November. Jim is our only salvation. WISE UP FOLKS...Jim is the only Congressman from this area that has really done anything worthwhile to help us...and HE CAN DO IT AGAIN!
