Reasons for runningI believe the County Commissioners office has the authority and opportunity to have a major impact on the quality of life and economic vitality within the County. The economic realities now faced by political leaders require candidates with skill in managing complex organizations and balancing the demands of employees and the taxpayer. My professional and community service experience make me the most qualified candidate to take on the management and public service demands of the position. I am now at ta time in my life that I have the opportunity to seek public office without compromising my business responsibilities or the needs of the office.
Priorities1. I believe there are opportunities to enhance revenue generation in the Sheriff's Dept through internal and legislative initiatives. These ideas need to be evaluated and implemented if feasible. Success in this effort would facilitate optimization of the jail's capacity and reduce the need for additional General fund allocations to the Department.
2. The Marcellus/Utica natural gas deposits should provide an economic boost if managed in a way that protects our environment and allows the Mahoning Valley to establish itself as a "Center of Influence" in natural gas exploration. It is through long term investment and job creation that we can provide opportunities for the entire spectrum of our population to benefit from this natural resource.
3. I will champion initiatives related to the expansion of retail sales activity. I hope to see the many empty storefronts in the County filled which would mean that jobs and tax revenue are being created which will support services provided by the County.
4. We must not lose focus on retention and potential expansion of businesses currently operating in the County. Business retention is a key opportunity for job growth and tax base.
QualificationsEvery year of my work life has been spent as either a member of a labor union or the manager of a company which employed an organized workforce. My extensive experience in the operation and management of large and complex local organizations (Aqua Ohio, the largest water company in the state of Ohio and Forum Health, the second largest employer in the Youngstown-Warren Metropolitan area)demonstrates my ability to successfully handle the challenges faced by County Government. In the last 20 years I have developed a high level of insight into our community by serving on Boards and forging strong working relationships with government and community leaders. When the community needed my skills I have gladly stepped forward by taking leadership roles in key organizations.
Positions on the issuesOur county and the Mahoning Valley have continued to struggle with job creation and economic expansion. This situation has resulted in unacceptable levels of unemployment, depressed wages and benefit offerings for those who are employed, and continual dependence on tax increases to sustain basic services. This reality has negatively impacted the quality of life for a significant portion of our population and contributed to the level of criminal activity. I am convinced that focusing on job creation and economic expansion will be the key to improving the lives of people and retaining the next generation in our community.

My experience in leading complex organizations suggest we can and must energize the power of our diverse and talent populous to address these core issues. The ability to articulate a vision and build collaboration among the many stakeholders in the county is critical to success. It is time to bring professional management to the Commissioners office and put public service ahead of lip service.

I would be proud to have your endorsement and will earn your confidence!
