|Time in area||I have lived in the area all my life. I was born in Youngstown, at St. Elizabeth Hospital and lived for one year at West Lakes Terrace Apartments. Our family moved to 6191 Belmont Ave. in Liberty Township and lived there until age 14 when we moved to Girard. I lived there until age 28 and moved to Youngstown in 1978 and have been a resident since then.|
|Reasons for running||I love public service. When growing up in a large poor and sometimes middle class family, my parents instilled a passion for being involved in doing something to make the lives of others better. Often heard in our house was a quote from both parents that we were to comfort the afflicted and inflict the comfortable. I believe that my talent for that allows me to represent the district well in that pursuit.|
|Priorities||I want to continue the success of the last three years in focusing on job creation by developing strong partnerships with all branches of government. I want to focus on renewable energy opportunities for our manufacturing base. I want to expand job growth by using the existing companies to share this rapid green growth and put our people back to work. I want to focus more on transportation needs by expanding our access to passenger rail.|
|Qualifications||I have worked in almost every capacity of this Valley and understand the struggle of working people. I have spent 10 years representing my brothers on the railroad as their local union president allowing me to develop leadership skills preparing me for the 10 years that I served in the Ohio House, the 10 years in the Ohio Senate and now the last three years back in the Ohio House. My dedication is my strongest qualification.|
|Positions on the issues||Jobs- Create more through partnerships|
Use stimulus money for "WPA Like Jobs" for our Valley.
Health Care- I am still pushing for a single payer plan covering all Ohioans.
Environment- Use of more green products and focus on conservation.
