|Reasons for running||As Girard Municipal Court Judge, I intend to make a real, positive difference in the lives of the people in our community. I have prosecuted hundreds of DUI, domestic violence, traffic, and other criminal cases. I have no illusions that one person can end crime or solve all the ills of society, but I know that the fair treatment of all people with respect and dignity--and the just imposition of criminal sanctions to deter future misconduct--will make a significant and lasting difference.|
|Priorities||1. Ensure respect for the law and the legal system.
Respect for people of diverse backgrounds has been a hallmark my career. I know that the fair treatment of all people with respect and dignity--including the just imposition of criminal sanctions to deter future misconduct--will make a significant and lasting difference. I will make sure the court operates on time, and be respectful of the parties, witnesses, and attorneys that come before the court.
2. Administer Justice Efficiently and Expeditiously.
Throughout my years of legal practice, I have been an active and successful trial attorney. I have experience in both civil and criminal law, and have served as both a prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney.
My nearly three decades of professional experience will make me an effective and efficient administrator of the court.
3. Make the Court Modern, Open and Accessible.
I will run a court that is on the cutting edge of available technology. I will seek to implement electronic filing of pleadings and use technology to make the court open and accessible to all citizens.
|Qualifications||The high regard I have earned from my peers is reflected in the fact that my fellow attorneys have selected me to be listed among the Best Lawyers in America and named an Ohio SuperLawyer. I have nearly three decades of experience as a trial lawyer, and have served as a past-president of the Mahoning-Trumbull Counties Academy of Trial Lawyers. I am a certified specialist is labor and employment law.
Excellent legal writing ability is crucial to effective service as a judge. At The Ohio State University College of Law, I won the prestigious Best Brief Award. I have written legal briefs on a wide variety of topics and will write thoughtful, well-reasoned opinions as a judge.
I have been a leader in the community, working with organizations that provide services to the poor, the elderly, and the disadvantaged including Northeast Ohio Legal Services, the Youngstown Area Community Action Agency, the Trumbull County Community Action Agency, and the Youngstown Community Health Center. I have also served as a volunteer coach in the Girard Youth Soccer League and been involved with numerous charitable organizations including the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, St. John's Soup Kitchen, and B'nai B'rith.
My professional experience will make me an effective and efficient administrator of the court. The cases of all who come before the court will be considered equally and judged fairly. I will serve impartially, with honesty and integrity. That's what our community needs and deserves.
|Positions on the issues||1. What is the number one problem facing the judge of the Girard Municipal Court and how would you solve it?
Crime in our community is the number one problem facing the Judge of the Girard Municipal Court. As prosecutor, I have handled hundreds of DUI, domestic violence, traffic, and misdemeanor criminal cases. That experience has taught me that it is improtant to get to the root cause of anti-social criminal conduct. I will see to it that those offenders with drug, alcohol, or anger management issues receive proper counseling and treatment to address those issues and stop the cycle of repeat offenses. I know that the fair treatment of all people with respect and dignity--and the just imposition of criminal sanctions to deter future misconduct--will make a significant and lasting difference.
2. What changes will you make to the court?
As judge, I will run a court that is on the cutting edge of available technology. I will seek to implement electronic filing of pleadings and use technology to make the court open and accessible to all.
3.Why are you the candidate best qualified to serve as Judge of the Girard Municipal Court
Trial experience is one of the most important qualification for a judicial candidate. In my career, I have tried over 500 cases. I have served as president of the Mahoning-Trumbull Counties Academy of Trial Lawyers. I have also served as lead counsel in eighty (80) reported cases. Reported cases are those that can be used as legal precedent in future cases. According to Westlaw, (a legal research search engine) all of the other candidates for Girard Municipal Court Judge combined have not served as lead counsel in eighty (80) reported cases. My advantage in trial experience makes me the best qualified candidate.
4. How will you maintain the costs of your court?
As the owner of my own law firm for over twenty-five years, I have learned the importance of minimizing costs and maximizing revenue.
I will hire only highly qualified employees. The court will be run efficiently, which will help keep labor costs down.
It will be my responsibility as judge to see to it that justice is administered fairly and the court operates in a way that gives the public confidence in our judicial system.
