| Reasons for running | The office has failed to evolve to meet the challenges of the criminal justice system. Critical mistakes have led to the release of violent criminals to the streets of our community and the victimization of innocent people. These criminals must be removed from this community in order to make it safer for our families and businesses. Accountability and fiscal responsibility must be brought to the forefront along with the training and development of professional prosecutors. The prosecutor's office can play a key role in economic development by protecting existing businesses and creating fertile ground for new businesses. Finally, Mahoning County deserves a full time prosecutor who has a vested interest in the future welfare of this community and the rights of victims. |

| Priorities | My top priority will be restructuring the office to better meet the challenges of a changing criminal justice system and to better serve the community. The processing of distressed properties through the county land bank will also receive a high priority. An evaluation of existing staff, operating costs, and services provided to statutory clients will be undertaken within my first year of office. The identification of grants or other outside funding sources and partnerships will also be undertaken in an effort to develop or implement alternative sentencing opportunities or new strategies to address persistent violent crime. The focus on the finances of the office will permit me to cut unnecessary expenses and waste from the budget and return it to the county general fund for use at the jail and sheriff's office. Finally, I will pursue every opportunity to implement an electronic case management system to track key dates, monitor discovery, and ensure the efficient movement of cases through the judicial system so critical mistakes are avoided and further injustices do not occur. |

| Qualifications | My entire professional background has been in the criminal justice system and public service at varying levels. When I am elected prosecutor, I will take office with more prosecutorial experience than any other newly elected prosecutor in the history of the county. I have the ability to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement and have a track record of success. I currently serve on the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission, having been appointed by Gov. Ted Strickland. This body analyzes newly proposed legislation and its physical and financial impact on the state correctional system. |

| Positions on the issues | The prosecutor's office must be part of the solution to the problems faced by our "dysfunctional" criminal justice system. We must explore every opportunity to save taxpayer dollars through the elimination of duplicate services and must seriously explore the recommendation of consolidation of the county's lower court system. With 211 beds empty at the county jail and deputies laid off or laboring under substantial concessions, the funding of full operations at the jail must occur. Additionally, pre-trial inmates languishing at the jail must cease. Effective and efficient disposition of criminal cases is needed and the prosecutor's office must be the driving force behind it. |
