Reasons for runningI have been involved for the past 7 1/2 years in city government. During those years,we have started to shed the image of corruption and a non responsive government and we have made significant progress in turning our city around. We cannot go back. We have many challenges still ahead, poor schools, declining population, and a shrinking tax base to name a few. We need a Mayor who has the passion and the vision to lead us into a future of prosperity and hope for all people and not a select few. We need a Mayor who is not a puppet for special interest but genuinely has a heart for the people of the city.
Priorities My priorities include safer streets, better schools, and more jobs. I want to continue to push our CIRV Initiative that I launched in 2011. We have seen tremendous declines in the amount of violent crimes throughout the city. I will continue to foster the relationship that I have with the Superintendent of Schools. I will use my influence as Mayor to assist the district in achieving its goals by creating safe neighborhoods for the students as well as providing resources to enhance the learning experience outside of the classroom. Finally, we will be more aggressive and proactive in our economic development approach. We will continue to offer incentives but we will also introduce new and creative ideas to retain existing businesses as well as attract new ones.
QualificationsMy qualifications include serving on the Legislative side of city government as a member of City Council. In addition, I also have the administrative experience working with the current Mayor for the past two a half years. My background in business and my public and private sector management experience equips me to lead during these difficult times. I have the capacity to manage government as well as work with the business sector to create economic opportunities for the residents of the City of Youngstown.
Positions on the issues I am against the Community Bill of Rights Ban on Fracking. I fully support JEDs with the surrounding communities and will work to smooth relations with our neighbors in hopes of attracting new industry and tax revenues to the region.
