Time in areaMy wife, daughter and myself returned to the Mahoning County area a little over a year ago after spending 30 years in Houston.

Reasons for runningI will let you know up front that I am not a politician. I am however; a citizen who is concerned about what goes on in our community and prepared to right the wrongs that have evolved into a deteriorating culture.

While in law enforcement in Texas, I was always open minded, but I was also open mouthed and spoke up when I felt there needed to be change. The higher ups always said the same thing “If you don’t like it then run for office and change it,” well that’s exactly what I am doing.

Those of you who have lived here for the past 30 years have seen this city fall deeper and deeper into ruin and it’s time for you and myself to make a difference.

I am a fighter and a problem solver who is not afraid to step up and get things done. Together you and I can make this county a safer and more prosperous place to live, gather, and raise our families.
PrioritiesMy main priority will be eliminating crime in our communities. Families and businesses will not move to our community if we are labeled a “Killing Field”. The crime rate in this area is out of control, and what does your current county government do? They laid off 101 law enforcement officers, close down over a third of the jail and release arrestees and convicts early because of lack of housing. Law Enforcement should be the very LAST thing to be cut, since these brave men and women are on the front lines protecting the people and property of this county.

I also would like to develop some of the blighted areas that have fallen to abandonment. There are so many properties that are now in the custody of the county and nothing is being done. These areas are unsafe, unsightly, and eyesore to visitors.

I would like to start community activity programs with the assistance of our local churches and civic organizations. Our kids need to be doing things other than fighting, dealing drugs, and shooting each other.
I will push to keep employment and business opportunities here in Mahoning County. I understand that some things would have to be outsourced, but Mahoning County job seekers and businesses would be placed at the “top of the pile”.
QualificationsMy political qualifications are not as extensive as my law enforcement background, however, I bring to the table the ability to get things done. The Office Of Commissioner needs to be honest, transparent and accountable to the citizens of this county.

I don’t have any affiliation with any businesses that I would “owe favors” to.

I don’t have any “brother-in-laws” who need a job that they’re not qualified for.

I only have the desire to make Mahoning County a show place community and a model for the rest of the country to envy.
Positions on the issuesThis question leads a lot to interpretation since there are so many issues that need to be addressed.

I’m sure that Fracking is a concern to a lot of people here, and regardless of the issue you are going to have people who are for and against something. The oil and gas industry will provide the county with a great deal of revenue and jobs.

Crime needs to be stopped and the court system needs to start imposing tougher sentences on convicted criminals. This revolving door jail system that is currently in effect needs to stop!!! Most of the time a criminal is released before the ink on an officers report is even dry. It sickens me to hear that children are being killed, that children are carrying guns, that an 8 year old boy is shot in the head by an idiot out shooting a gun. THIS IS NEEDS TO STOP.

I am always asked about my views on abortion, and my answer to that is: I do not condone abortion at all…In the event of a criminal act or a medical issue I could see it.

If you would like my opinion on a specific issue, please feel free to email me at david.rossi2012@yahoo.com
