Jay's reasons for seeking office:

I am seeking reelection to continue building on the progress of re-defining Youngstown. The problems and challenges this city faces are many. However, I am yet convinced that the upside potential of the City outweighs the down. I am proud of many of the things we have accomplished collectively as a community, but I am not at all satisfied. There is much more work to be done.

Jay's qualifications:

My three plus years serving as Mayor of the Valley's largest city have given me better knowledge, skill, perspective, and understanding on how to help lead Youngstown than anything else. There is no better training than the job itself! (Assuming you arrive with the right preparation.) However, my previous experience as CDA director and my years spent in private sector banking proved to be an invaluable foundation.

Where Jay stands on the issues:

The major issues as I see them include, safety, economic development, and neighborhood progress. We must also continue our efforts to re-invent government in these times of economic challenge. However, there are a myriad of other critical issues that must be dealt with simultaneously. The Mayor of this city does not have the "luxury" of addressing any one issue at a time.

Jay's priorities if elected:

My top priority will be to continue making progress on the major issues identified above, within the context of Youngstown 2010 and also to prepare to carry this progress into "Youngstown 2020." Regional collaboration will continue to remain a priority. We will also continue to exert this community as a relevant and contributing player in regional, statewide, and national issues. The image/perception of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley is changing for the better and we must maintain this momentum.
