Salem, OH
County Recorder
Columbiana County Recorder, 2005-Present, Ohio Democratic Party State Central Committee, 30th Senate District, 2004-Present
I am proud of what has been accomplish ed in our county recorder's office during the last four years. Spending has been lowered, tax dollars have been saved, and debt has been eliminated. Veterans and office users have been provided new services and new technology has been adopted. I have also implemented programs to cover up or hide social security numbers in order to prevent identity theft from important county documents. I hope to have the opportunity to continue serving my community by operating our county recorder's office in a fiscally conservative and responsible manner while protecting Columbiana County citizens.
I am proud to currently serve as Columbiana County's current county recorder. My experience as a college professor, constituent aide in the Ohio Senate, and as a veteran of many campaigns have provided me with a unique understanding of state and local government. My experience has allowed me to adopt policy and new technology in our county recorder's office in an efficient and experienced manner. I have also had the opportunity to contribute to the passage of laws benefiting county recorders including a law that now allows county recorders to reject documents containing social security numbers. This law has been an important piece of developing public policy that discourages and prevents theft of personal information via public documents.
County offices must spend public money responsibly. In 2003, the Columbiana County recorder's office spent over $450,000. After my first year in office I reduced spending to under $245,000. The difference is $200,000 dollars saved of taxpayers' money. As recorder, I have been very proactive regarding the prevention of identity theft from public documents. I have lobbied for laws limiting the occurrence of social security numbers on documents filed in the county recorder's office. I have also implemented a program that allows social security numbers to be covered up when requested by citizens. Today we are identifying social security numbers in our records archive and covering up social security numbers on previously filed documents.
My top priority is to continue operation of the Columbiana County recorder's office in a financially responsible manner and continue protecting the public by supporting policies and enacting reforms that protect people from identity theft.
