Lordstown, OH
Lordstown Village Council
As your councilman, I believe that I have earned the respect and trust of the residents of Lordstown. I have no personal agenda and look tot he years that I have served you as an opportunity to serve the best interests of the village of Lordstown. I have fulfilled all of my original campaign promises.
I serve on the following village committees: streets and sidewalks (as chairman), finance, parks, school liaison, negotiations, bike trail and abatement review. I have also served on the safety (fire and police) committee and the utilities (water and sewers) committee. As a member of the Lordstown community, I have served as director of baseball, for many years provided free Saturday morning gymnastic clinics for all Lordstown grade levels, was part of the small group that conceived the idea of the outdoor environmental education program that later grew to become TAMPEEL, served on the fire indemnity board, have been on the Lordstown Relay for Life organization since it began and served as its chairman for two years. I received the 2007 Spirit Award from the Relay and a certificate of merit. I am an officer in the Lordstown charity golf outing.
The future finances of Lordstown are always a concern. We promised that the increase in the income tax would be used primarily for infrastructure like roads, sewers and other such services. I promise to honor that commitment. No increase in taxes will be necessary for many years to come. Even though we have plans to provide sewers to the entire east side of Lordstown by the end of the year, there will still be small pockets of Lordstown that will not have sewers. We should, where feasible, provide sewers to these areas as a priority. The population of Lordstown is aging. Half of this community is over 50. As our residents age, we need to provide our senior citizens with alternative, affordable housing, transportation, nutritional needs and educational and recreational opportunities. We must also be proactive in our efforts to bring new families to Lordstown. Further extension of sidewalks are needed. I started by having the streets and sidewalks department put in sidewalks on Salt Springs Road so that walkers and our teams could go around the school on a solid service. Later, when grants became available, council was able to put in sidewalks on one side of the roads that enable residents and our children to safely walk from our school to the parks, administration building and library while also serving many of our developments.
I will work diligently to help bring business and industry to Lordstown. The recent scare at GM and the current economy have shown the need for jobs and stability for our families. A strong promotional program would include advertising, incentives, development of suitable sites with infrastructure in place, a cooperative relationship with local business and industry to fill their needs and keep them here, work closely with regional and area organizations, and work with local schools and universities to provide the educational needs of the present and future workforce.
