Campbell, OH
Mayor
N/A
I feel a city should be run like a business. The Mayor is the CEO and our citizens, who are the tax payers, are the shareholders. Under our current mayor, who has been in office for 10 years, we have entered into fiscal emergency, lost departments, have had multiple layoffs, and almost lost our most valuable asset, our water plant. Being a business owner myself, I know what other business owners are looking for and how to take control of our current financial problem and head into a new direction.
I feel as a financial advisor, whose, business has grown in the last 10 years during two major recessions, to be a successful, well-respected financial firm employing multiple representatives and support staff. I poses the knowledge of what we as a city need to attract the new businesses and citizens to grow our community.
Our city is in major fiscal emergency. We are not utilizing our current assets to the best of our advantage, grant money, CDBG money, or even taking advantage of all grants available to us. It is disheartening that only because of our federal and state government throwing money out in droves that we have any funds to tear down abandoned homes, and repave a couple of our main streets. We should have a grant writing division for our citizens, businesses, and city. So we can have a constant road maintenance plan, new fire trucks and extra police officers. A credit union that will help loan money to our citizens to buy homes, open businesses, or even help current businesses expand.
To name a few I plan to set up a grant writing divisions. Second, properly staff our police and fire departments. Next, put in place a road maintenance program. Then focus on attracting new businesses. Approximately half of our city’s income, according to our most recent and last audit, which is from 2006 and completed in 2008 is from taxation. I would like to at some point in the future lower taxes only on existing businesses, and new businesses to 1.5%. If you do the math, the additional businesses and employees they would hire will generate more tax revenue. The money consumers would spend at our local businesses will make up the 1% decrease and can increase tax revenue to an unlimited amount. Finally I would initiate a home owner incentive plan.It is a simple concept and the incentive amount would be predetermined, it is based upon income, and if married or single. The move in incentive will not just be for a first time home buyer as the CHIP grants are, but will be available to anyone who purchases a home, and will be occupying that single family resident. This plan, in combination with a grant writing division, lower taxes on businesses, promoting home ownership, and a credit union to help our citizens and businesses, current and new, makes me certain we can have a new and brighter future for Campbell.
You want to first propertly staff the police and fire departments then pave roads then attract new business and then lower the income tax. How do you plan to do that without any money? The city is broke!
