Boardman Township, OH
Boardman Board of Education
2 previous terms, boardman board of ed. since 2002. precinct committee person (2005?)
after two terms as a boardman board of education member, i am seeking reelection because i have a passion for public service and believe in what i've been doing. our board has set a standard of excellence for our students and our school system that the team (parents, teachers, administrators, community) has worked hard to accomplish. we have solid plans to continue our excellent performance amidst the changing funding, mandates, etc. and i would like to continue my role in pursuing those plans.
my experience is diverse. primarily, i have been involved as an active volunteer in the schools and in public education for nearly all the 25 years i have lived in boardman. i am familiar with school funding issues, testing mandates, and other governmental concerns that impact our system and i am passionate about the irreplaceable value of parent involvement. i have a strong business background, having been a small business owner in the area, and quite simply, am very dedicated.
we are fortunate to have candidates for this office that are running with only pure intentions. therefore we think similarly on many of the key issues. foremost, of course, is the issue of school funding and how we maintain our excellence while balancing the reductions in funding and the increases in mandates. my position of course is to lobby and advocate for adequate funding of public schools and for the students of ohio. secondly, i believe we should strategically plan for the long term future, which has caused us to evaluate our facilities and consider where they can be as well as where we want them to be in the future. we want to continue to offer excellent diverse programs, including our unique arts curricula as well as grow our a/p course offerings to encourage high student achievement.
our priorities are, as they have been, operating within our budget. as our funding is eroded by the less and less funding from the state, and the economic climate makes it near impossible to ask our taxpayers for more, we must continually be looking for the next way to save...being as fiscally responsible to the people of boardman as possible. all of this must be done while maintaining boardman's broad course offerings and encouraging individual student success.
