Office Sought:

Boardman Board of Education

Offices previously held:

Boardman Local School Board Member January 1st 2006-Present

Nik's reasons for seeking office:

It is such an honor to serve the school system I have known and loved my entire life that I am seeking re-election to the Boardman Local School Board. Serving this wonderful school system and the community is the most extremely rewarding community service work I have ever done.

Nik's qualifications:

I am a current member of the Boardman Local School Board which gives me almost four years of experience in the office in which I seek. I am qualified to be a candidate because of my long history of community service. In 2002 I served as co-chairman for the Boardman Local Schools levy campaign. I have been a member of the Boardman Rotary Club for sixteen years and have served in every executive office including past President in 2001-2002. I was the chairman of the Boardman Rotary’s Oktoberfest four times. I was also a member of the Boardman Booster Executive Committee for over 20 years serving as its past president three times. I am a past member of the Board of Directors of the Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center. I am currently involved in the Robinwood Lane PTA and have served as the chairman of the father-son night and “Right to Read” week. I also feel that I am uniquely qualified as I am the only candidate who will have students in the Boardman schools after this current school year.

Where Nik stands on the issues:

There are no major issues in the race for the Boardman Local School Board. A good school board member should care about the following issues each and every day: 1) The safety of our students is the most important issue. In the last four years, we have obtained grants to replace all of our security cameras and locking systems for all of our entrances and locks for our doors. We currently have an H1N1 emergency plan in place and will be offering H1N1 vaccinations at no charge to any student who wishes to participate at no charge in early November. 2) Fiscal Responsibility. Through the direction of our administration, teachers and staff, we have saved the system just over eight million dollars in the past four years. It is very important to watch our finances as laws from the State are constantly changing. 3) Hiring the best administrators to facilitate board policies. 4) Ensuing our buildings and grounds are in the best possible shape for the safety of our students and the best learning environment. 5) Setting the policy for our school system.

Nik's priorities if elected:

We have a group of Boardman residents in place including staff, residents and community leaders. They have been meeting for more than six months to develop a strategic plan for the future of our school system. Once these recommendations are made I will work hard to implement the plan into our school system.
