Salem, OH
Salem City Council, At-Large - Democrat
Columbiana County Court Judge, 1993 - 2001; Salem City Council, 2009 - present
I am seeking to continue in this position, because as a resident of the city, I want to see the city grow and be financially healthy, as it will then provide a place for our families to live and prosper. If the citizens vote for me, they will ensure themselves of someone being fiscally responsible while at the same time moving the city forward. Common sense must dictate during these difficult economic times.
Legal experience in my private law practice, in particular helping business clients with everyday issues, along with managing the business side of my practice. Having a management degree has helped me over the years in doing this. Further, my experience as a county court judge in managing the day to day operations of the court has given me valuable experience.
Revenue to properly operate the city, while being fiscally responsible is the bottom line. However, there are limited ways to raise revenue. I would not remove the reciprocity given to residents that work outside the city without the citizens approval. Just as an increase in the city income tax has been put to the people for their decision. Development of new businesses would bring more employees to the city, which would increase the tax base and increase revenues. This can be done by development of a new industrial park and city cooperation with the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center (SOD Center), which will help and assist in the development of new businesses. Further, the city maintaining and improving its infrastructure in an important key to development of this growth.
