American Red Cross - Board of Directors- June 2009- present

James's reasons for seeking office:

I am very proud to be an Austintown resident and want to continue to provide for the future of Austintown ensuring that it will always be a "Great Community to Live In and a Great Place to Raise a Family."

James's qualifications:

I am an energetic and highly motivated person. I believe in maintaining honesty and integrity within employment positions at all times. My current employment as a sales manager and as a supervisor in law enforcement provides me with a unique knowledge of business administration, book keeping, inventory control, safety practices, and Human Resources policies, procedures and regulations. I have great public relations skills, can handle sensitive situations, and have the ability to make difficult decisions in a timely manner. I understand the responsibility of township departments to maintain fiscal accountability and work within specified budgets.

Where James stands on the issues:

Public Safety - See below Business Development - See below Parks and Recreation - See below Gas Aggregation - I will cooperate with the other township trustees to negotiate the best compromise with area gas companies to provide residents the best services at a decreased cost.

James's priorities if elected:

My top priority is the development and safety of Austintown Township and the safety of its residents. My vision for the development and growth of the township is set in a three tier system. 1. Business Development: It is essential to the growth of Austintown to bring viable businesses to the community. As a community leader I will take an interest in all existing and new businesses and their operations. My desire is to quickly occupy vacant buildings and store fronts and develop empty areas within the township. I would like to see the creation of a township website addressing all available/ vacant business locations for sale and lease. With the use of this website, by working with area real estate companies and the property owners, and it’s easy accessibility to major interstates, Austintown Township should be a hot spot for retail and service businesses. 2. Public Safety and Security: A safer community is not achieved by reacting to issues as they occur, it means continuing the proactive approach the Austintown Police Department and Fire Department are already taking. My 9 year background as a member of Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement will also help me identify successful strategies for addressing issues of crime prevention and community safety. By developing a plan comprised of input from the township’s leaders, our safety forces, our citizens, and neighboring communities we can be sure the safety of our loved ones, preservation of our properties, and security of our community will not be compromised. I would like to see a plan developed to restore a reserve police core to assist the full time officers and enable more enforcement in high profile/ high risk areas of the township. I fully support the continuance of application for grant money by the fire and police departments to obtain equipment, employment, and training for their employees. 3.Parks and Recreation: Parks are an important part of community life. While it may be challenging to overcome funding issues it is my goal to communicate the importance of parks and recreation by continuing park programs and developing new ones. It is my desire to explore all resources such as having neighborhoods take an active interest in the parks such as assisting with certain maintenance, suggesting ideas for improvements, talking to children about the importance of parks, and making sure our parks continue to be an attractive asset to the community. By developing Austintown businesses, ensuring public safety, and creating programs and activities for Austintown residents I know that Austintown will be a community that it’s residents and neighboring communities respect.
