Salem Council at Large-Democrat

Offices previously held:

Council at Large 1-2-06 to Present

Clyde's reasons for seeking office:

As a candidate for Council at Large in 2005, I promised the residents of Salem I would make decisions based on their input and concerns. I wasn't elected to make decisions for the people. I was elected to serve the people. I've kept my promises. I'm the only, previously elected Council at Large candidate on the ballot, for the November General Election. I'm a full-time member of Salem City Council and I will continue to consider the residents of Salem as my employer. They are my priority.

Clyde's qualifications:

I'm completing my first term as a member of City Council. Since 2005, I've been a candidate for office on two occasions. I knocked on every door in Salem at least twice. I've addressed over 950 concerns of the residents of Salem. I prefer to make home visits then discuss concerns over the telephone. Prior to retirement, I worked in sales and retail management for over fifty years. My experience of working with the public makes me willing to listen to concerns of the people. I've been doing that since my first day on city council and I will continue that practice in 2010.

Where Clyde stands on the issues:

The major issues in Salem are the same as those in Youngstown and every community you can mention. Economic development to create new employment opportunity and retention of the jobs we currently have at this time. I firmly believe you can't have economic development until you have a plan set in concrete to turn things around. We must have incentives in place for those wanting to come to Salem and the tri-county area. At this time, I take the position, we eliminate all spending that isn't for the health and welfare of our residents. It's of major importance that Salem and Perry-Township work together for the future. It's also a priority that we agree to an Economic Development Concern Policy for the Tri-County Area. Together we can accomplish a lot but separate we will accomplish little or nothing.

Clyde's priorities if elected:

As the senior member of Salem City Council, I will press my fellow council members to remember we were elected to serve the people by making good decisions for the welfare of our community. I will continue to recommend cutting unnecessary spending and living within the budget. You can't ask people that are losing their jobs, homes and their future to give what they don't have.
