Boardman Township, OH

Office Sought:

Boardman Board of Education

John's reasons for seeking office:

I graduated from Boardman and returned to this area to give back to the community and provide leadership for the future. A new voice and new ideas are needed to prepare our children for a changing future.

John's qualifications:

I’m a dual graduate of Case Western Reserve University who spent several years in northern Virginia serving as a technology consultant for CGI Federal. When I decided to run, I took the time to meet with the leaders of the school district as well all seven principals of the Boardman schools. I have a clear picture of the Boardman schools and where it needs to go for the future. I am also a member of the Boardman Local Schools Planning Committee. I am a member of the Boardman Civic Association and the Mahoning Valley Professional 20/30 Club. I have been selected by the Ohio Young Democrats as a Run2009 candidate.

Where John stands on the issues:

There are several major issues facing the Boardman schools: • School Funding: Boardman and its residents pay a significant percentage of the cost of each student. The district must maintain financial responsibility while working with other schools and the state to push for better funding of schools in Boardman and in all of Ohio. • Keeping Boardman Schools Excellent: Meeting the requirements of the state to be an Excellent school is important to the district, but also we must allow our students and teachers to be excellent in a global economy which requires innovation and creativity to succeed. Innovation and entrepreneurship are important subjects for students to learn to prepare for college and compete for new jobs.

John's priorities if elected:

I would work with the Board to make sure Boardman is offering a high quality education to all of its students and prepare our district financially for the future. \This can be accomplished by working with all of the stakeholders in the schools from administrators to students and teachers and identifying best practices used at similar districts.
