Bill Klein

From:

Austintown Township, OH

Office Sought:

Austintown Board of Education

Bill's reasons for seeking office:

I love being in the public eye and helping people. Since my Junior year of high school I have aspired for a seat on the Austintown BOE. I know that my experience in Austintown with teachers in the area can make a difference. As a education major I know what teachers are looking for and I understand their problems. From a citizens standpoint I understand what it feels like to not understand an issue that is being passed. I want to make everything clear for everybody and try to keep an orderly aura in the district. As a musician, I am a huge believer in the advertisement of the arts. I would like to have this position to be given the opportunity to showcase the arts at all levels of our students education ALONG WITH the sporting events. Mostly, because I am a recent graduate of Fitch High, I know the issues that go on inside the walls of the high school, and I think the views of a younger person are exactly what a successful district needs.

Bill's qualifications:

Throughout my life I have been in public speaking/leadership positions that I believe qualify me for this position. As a 4th grade student at Davis Elementary I participated in Destination Imagination(Odyssey of the Mind), and loved every minute of being on stage in front of people. As a junior high student I lead the "STOPP" Clubs (A student group opposing peer pressure) skits section and preformed for the school many times with this group under the direction of Mrs. Oligilvee. As a high school student I was the Drum Major for the Military Pride of Austintown, the President of Fitch's Chapter of National Society, Vice-President of the Speech and Debate team, and Director of Music for the Drama Club. I believe these leadership positions are more that suitable for a seat on the BOE. Currently I am taking education classes at YSU, and understand laws and issues that teachers deal with daily and yearly. I understand the No Child Left Behind Act and would like to make parents completely aware of how Austintown is observing it. Because I am a future educator, knowledge in depth and detail, I feel, is very important.

Where Bill stands on the issues:

Making the arts more known in the district is very important to me in that Austintown knows the success stories of all its students. Money will always be an issue, and I have some ideas that may help with the money problems we are having. Some of my ideas include the selling of AMS, and the possibility of hiring a lobbyist/ lawyer to work for Austintown local schools, to ask the state for money. The procedures we are taking for the math program in grade schools are extremely confusing and need more work put into a new way of teaching our students math. Finally, raising the test scores of our students. I also have a few ideas for this issue as well that include a possible new scheduling plan, new ways to teach math, and after/ during school study programs that can help students on a more one on one basis.

Bill's priorities if elected:

I want to make Austintown a powerhouse as far as education, sports, arts, and pride. I want school to be about the students success, not the districts feuding. By helping students preform better, exposing every good that comes out of the district, and working together with teachers, students, and administrators, we can make Austintown a better place for everybody. It has to start somewhere, and I want to be the one who does so. I'll talk to teachers, a beneficial idea to insure their point is heard. I will have time for parents who want the best for their kids. I will make school for the students the way it has always been meant to be. A learning environment that is fun and beneficial at the same time. Students come first to me, and by making students who are proud to be a Falcon, makes a district even prouder to be a district of Falcons.
