11.14.2009 Polish Christmas traditions are celebrated during The Artistry of Wigilia (Christmas Eve) held at St. Joseph the Provider Church in Campbell, benefiting the Krakowiaki Polish Folk Circle.

The Vindicator/Geoffrey Hauschild Donna Zubil helps her daughter, Codi Zubil, 17, both of East Palestine, emerse themselves in their Polish heritage by rolling out dough for the making of pirohy or pierogies while overseen by workshop leader, Larry Kozlowski, of Erie, during The Artistry of Wigilia (Christmas Eve) benefitting the Krakowiaki Polish Folk Circle at St. Joseph the Provider Church in Campbell on Saturday afternoon. "These traditions act as a catalyst to bring your family together," says Kozlowski, "its about teaching traditions that have been lost or never known in addition to remembering memories and making new ones."

The Vindicator/Geoffrey Hauschild Jan Gatti, of Erie, presses oplatek, also known as Christmas wafers, on a 100 year old wafer press during The Artistry of Wigilia, meaning Christmas Eve, at St. Joseph the Provider Church in Campbell on Saturday afternoon. White wafers are reserved for people whereas pink are intended for pets, who according to tradition receive the ability to speak at midnight on Christmas Eve due to their presence at Jesus' birth, the event raised money for the Krakowiaki Polish Folk Circle
