Takeouts will be available starting at 3 p.m. The meals consist of baked or fried fish, parsley potatoes, pirogi, coleslaw, applesauce, homemade desserts, and beverages. Prices are $9 for adults, $4.50 for children 5 to 12 and free for children under 4. The annual Relay for Life at St. Patrick School in Hubbard recently kicked off Catholic Schools Week. The event raises funds to help fight cancer. Luminaries were lit in honor of cancer survivors and for those who lost their struggle with cancer. Noreen Jones spoke about her personal battle with cancer and the strides that have been made against the disease. Various stations, such as the healthy snack station, skin cancer awareness coloring station and physical activity stations, stressed the importance of physical activity in the fight against cancer. In recognition of Heart Month, the Alliance Community Hospital volunteers are asking for donations of nonperishable foods and paper products for its Have a Heart food drive through Feb. 15. Items will be given to the Alliance Community Food Pantry and can be placed in a box in the hospital cafe. Holding some of the items that have been collected are, from left, Barb Morgan and Eleanor Carver, ACH volunteers; Michele Quinn, coordinator of volunteer services; and Wendy Tabellion. Volunteers range in age from 16 to 93. Last year the food pantry gave away 931,000 pounds of food, an increase of 37 percent since 2012. Dena Deluco and Mark Williams, members of Youngstown Executive 408 Toastmasters Club, both took first place wins at the Club Speech and Evaluation Contests on Jan. 27 at Shepherd of the Valley in Poland. Deluco, club president, won first place in the International Speech contest, and Williams, club treasurer, won first place for the Evaluation Contest. They move on to an area Toastmasters contest that will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Wean Building in Warren. Second place winners were Alex Mangie, International Speech; and Art Byrd, Evaluation.
