The goal is to take the library where the patrons are. The Pop-Up Library travels in the back of a pickup truck. The scholarship auction has raised more than $150,000 to benefit 120 graduating high school seniors in the parish. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Noah McLemore, an eighth-grader from Canfield whose aunt was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, looked for ideas to help her feel better. He and his mother put together a package he calls a “cancer care bag.” For three months he and other middle school students collected donations of items and prepared the bags. The bags each contain a water bottle, lip balm, mints, a lap blanket and a journal. They delivered 108 bags to the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, and two bags were given to people the children know, who are suffering with cancer. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR The 2013 Youngstown Area Junior High Delegation with delegations from Akron-Canton and Erie attended a 19-day adventure visiting The Louvre and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and the Jura Mountains in southern France. Area delegates included Allison Blackburn, Donna Cherry, Jessica Christian, Ryan Gavalier, Dillon Hajduk, Alexandria Harman, Kenzie Johnston, Coty King, Faith Rush, Rayven Shaw and Dakota Vince. In 2014 the junior and senior high delegations will travel to France, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. An informational meeting will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Fitch High School auditorium. More than 100 of those were encouraged to visit their physicians for follow-up care.
