SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR The Youngstown Chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute recently honored students from Youngstown schools at a luncheon at the McGuffey center. Each year, the institute awards scholarships to seniors desiring to expand their educational studies. Each essay winner received a $1,000 scholarship award. The 2012-2013 scholarship recipients, from left, were Constance Pettway of Youngstown East High School who will attend Kent State University; Jonelle McIntyre of Chaney who will attend Howard University; Michael Scarver, the keynote speaker, is political action coordinator for United Steelworkers of America; and award recipient, Ja’Lyn Russell of Youngstown Early College who also will attend KSU. The Rev. William Blake was the master of ceremonies and honorees were Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the founder of the organization, Asa Philip Randolph.
