SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Austinwood Nursing Facility in Austintown was the location of the 103rd birthday party for Pearl Walters, seated, who was born March 26, 1910. Wearing a tiara and purple studded dress, Walters was presented with a proclamation from Austintown elected officials. From left they are the Rev. Rick Stauffer and Lisa Oles, trustees; Laurie Wolfe, fiscal officer; and Jim Davis, trustee. She has six children, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Michael Wisniewski, U.S. Army retired, at a recent installation banquet ceremony at Consolidated Activities Center of the Youngstown Air Force Reserve Station in Vienna. The award is presented for exemplary civic and military service to the local chapter, their community and the country. Rasile is a charter member of the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys Chapter of the MOAA, served as second vice president and is currently its historian. During his tenure, he served as the membership chairman and brought recognition to the chapter as a National Category One winner for recruiting new chapter members. He and his wife, Bonita, reside in Boardman.

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR P.R.E.P. Learning Center of Youngstown recently sponsored a book giveaway at Jackson Milton Elementary School through its literacy program, Read & Succeed. The program was prompted by Kelly McCorkle, a sophomore at Jackson Milton High School, who volunteered 10 hours to raise funds for the center at the elementary school because of her enjoyment of reading. McCorkle raised $90 for the center, a nonprofit organization that offers a variety of free programs such as one-on-one tutoring, after- school homework assistance, literacy and STEM programs. According to zoning department statistics, the valuation of building permits already is at $1,830,235, with permit fees at $11,248. The numbers are a big jump from a year ago, when valuation was $1,140,000 and permit fees were $6,776.

A group of students is shown participating in Zumbatonic, which the school offers every Wednesday after class. The school nurse also has begun a Lunch Laps program that encourages students to walk and keep track of their progress. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR At a recent meeting of Argus Lodge of Canfield, its annual inspection was completed and James C. Feist, left, and David L. Collins, of the 24th Masonic District, were presented with plaques by Russell W. Gillam Jr. for attending 300 consecutive lodge inspections. When Feist and Collins joined in 2002, there were 31 lodges in the district, now there are 25. Each lodge has an inspection annually, and these men have not missed one in the past 11 years. They are the first in the district to attain this accomplishment.

The event included high school juniors from more than 50 schools in Northeast Ohio, including 44 young men and 55 young women. Speakers, activities and workshops filled the three days and gave the youths an opportunity to network with other future leaders. Latrice is the daughter of Larry and Beatrice Nelson and is an honor student. She is a member of Fitch Interact Club, Robotics Team, tennis, drama, speech and debate, Academic Challenge, soccer and Future Business Leaders. She is also a member of Girl Scouts. Alec is the son of Christopher and Kathy Kalis and is an honor student. He is a member of the NEOUCOM high school program, a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital and a member of Interact and Spanish clubs.
