Zion Church, 920 Dryden Ave., Youngstown, is sponsoring a four-week literacy program, Summer Bridge, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 1 through 26. The program is free for children in grades one through six. It is funded by a grant from the Raymond John Wean Foundation’s Neighborhood Success and Leadership program. Classes will focus on reading, exercise, music and art. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The committee of sponsors seated, from left, are Jaylah Reed, the Rev. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Youngstown Lions Club’s 92nd Annual Turtle Derby will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday in downtown Lowellville by the gazebo on Water Street. Cole Cuffle is checking out some of the turtles. Turtles will race and there will be a basket auction, games and prizes for the kids, food and a car show. The Lions hope to raise $30,000 this year. Proceeds are used to benefit the community. For information call 330-503-0777.
