SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Roselyn Gadd, left, presents a scholarship check to Megan Avey on behalf of Girard Junior Women. The award is given annually to a Girard High School student. Avey has demonstrated qualities of giving back to the community, the primary purpose of the club. The club earns money through trunk sales and a Christmas bazaar. All proceeds are given back to the community as needs arise.

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Victory@Liberty adopted the Green Acres neighborhood in Liberty. The church members improved the area by cutting grass, picking up trash and cleaning empty lots. On June 1, a block party was led by volunteers from Operation Impact Ministry of the church. Children were entertained with a DJ, bounce-a-rounds, food, ice cream and a visit from the Liberty Fire Department. The church plans to adopt more neighborhoods.

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Peppy Purple Red Hats honored its queen May 21 at Soni’s Italian Restaurant in New Castle, Pa. From left are Carol Gaines, Queen Paula DeMatteo and Myrnice Forte; and sitting at the table is Mardie Meyers. A skit was read that portrayed the events of the day and bestowed a new wardrobe of gifts on the queen including a crown, robe, scepter and throne. Members each gave tokens of appreciation to their queen, who, in turn, dubbed each member with a royal title.
