Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers will host the giant pumpkin growing seminar from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 16 at McMahon Hall at MetroParks Farm, one mile south of Canfield on Route 46 across from Canfield Fairgrounds. To register call Parks Garden Center at 330-533-7278. There is no charge for the event and giant pumpkin seeds will be available. The class will cover seed selection, soils, fertilizing, pests, pollination, pruning and irrigation. The Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers is one of the world’s premier giant pumpkin clubs with 275 members in North America. In 2012, the club set the world record for the 10 heaviest pumpkins at one weigh-off, averaging 1,553 pounds. Christa Parks of Parks Garden Center is shown with her giant pumpkin weighing 1,512 pounds, one of those 10.
