SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR The Pennsylvania State House of Representatives recently recognized New Castle’s Eintracht Maennerchor for its commitment to singing after a 30-minute concert by the group. The choir was founded in 1894 and is one of the nation’s oldest male singing groups. At a spring concert May 4 at the Eintracht Hall in New Castle, seven members will be awarded pins for 50 years of service with the group. Kourtney Hardwick, BP Florida operations manager, looks over a methane gas well site east of Bayfield, Colo. The well pad now has three gas wells that have been drilled and are producing natural gas. A new report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has dramatically lowered estimates of how much of a potent greenhouse gas is being leaked by the natural-gas industry. The EPA now estimates that in 2011, the natural-gas industry released 10 percent less methane into the atmosphere than it did in 1990. The new figure comes after the EPA estimated last year that those methane emissions had risen about 15 percent since 1990.

They have six weeks to build their entry. Worldwide there are 2,143 teams and the Austintown team shares and cooperates with teams from Warren, Girard and Canfield. The school provides a work space but the teams must raise funds to build the units. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Flower Wagon Garden Club recently began its celebration of its 40th anniversary year with a meeting at the home of Barbara Banks. The club also has been a member of Garden Forum for 40 years. It was founded in 1973 and founding members are Banks, Judi Kotch and Connie Meek. The club has participated in planting the Poland “P” in flowers, landscaping at Struthers Library and highway planting on Water Street. The club also visited with residents of Blackburn Home and fashioned flowers for the residents of Glen Ellen. To mark the celebration, members received a stained-glass desk lamp, handcrafted by George Banks of Glass Gems. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Boardman Lions Club will extend its eyeglass collection effort through a partnership with the Lordstown General Motors Plant, placing five collection boxes inside through the efforts of United Auto Workers Local 1714 President Dave Green, also a Boardman Lion. The boxes are located at Lordstown’s main entrances and at the safety department. More than 1,750 pairs of glasses have been collected by the club since September to be redistributed through LensCrafters to those in need. The event will take place at 7 p.m. April 19 in the Family Life Center, 300 N. Broad St., Canfield. Proceeds will help pay for the center’s mortgage.
