The Junior League of Youngstown honored breast-cancer survivors of the Mahoning Valley for the 18th year at its Pink Ribbon Tea recently at The Georgetown Banquet Center. Survivors shared their stories, struggles and victories. The Pink Ribbon Tea committee includes Sallie McKelvey, foreground; front row from left, Connie Knecht, Gretchen Backus, chairwoman Annette Camacci and Anna Marie Newman; and back row from left, Cindy Bennett, Paula Stefanski, Susan Berny, Rae Lackner, Sue Trebilcock and Pat Butto. Brenda M. Rider, founder of A Way With Words Foundation and a 13-year breast-cancer survivor, presented the program at this year’s event. A Way With Words is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to anyone who has been touched by cancer. ROCcK (Raising Our Commitment to Cancer Kids, a children’s choir formed by Rider, performed at the event. Generous support of members and corporate underwriters made it possible for 400 survivors to attend the event free of charge.
