Instead of buying and exchanging gifts for one another, members of Youngstown Chapter of The Links Inc. made a donation to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Vice President Janice Beachum, left, and President Krishmu Shipmon, right, presented the check to James Echement, executive director of the Rescue Mission. Links is an international volunteer service organization that strives to affect the quality of life through community service.

Trumbull Township Association recently met to reorganize and install officers for 2012. Officers are chosen to represent elected township officials in Trumbull County and to promote grassroots government at state and local levels as part of the greater Ohio Township Association. The Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens will sponsor “Girls Night Out — Vintage Hollywood Glamour” May 22 and May 23 at the Davis Center, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown. Preparing for the event are, from left, Jeanne Simione, buyer for The Shop in the Gardens; Sherry Gordon from The House of Georgie vintage clothing store in Howland; David Armstrong of Cater 2 U; and Eileen Stankovich, manager of The Shop in the Gardens. Festivities for the shopping event will begin each day at 5:30 p.m. There will be items unique to the gift store and vendors with a variety of wares. Members of the Friends group will receive a 20% discount at the shop, and others will receive a 10% discount. There also will be a photo booth by David Alan Photography, dinner by Cater 2 U at 7 p.m. and a vintage fashion show, courtesy of House of Georgie, at 7:45. Reservations are required and space is limited. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by calling 330-740-7116.

In 1976, Laurie Fox of Lowellville and her husband bought 2 acres of property in Poland Township on which to build their home. One of the trees they didn’t cut down was a small wild cherry tree. Laurie says it has blossomed and produced cherries every year and was exceptionally early this year, having blossomed in March.
