More than 1,500 Girl Scouts and their families attended the Camporee in April at the Canfield Fairgrounds. The event was part of a yearlong celebration of Girl Scouts’ 100th anniversary. The local Girl Scouts of North East Ohio has 40,000 girls and 14,000 adult members in 18 counties.

The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest Committee, along with the Italian Heritage Foundation of Youngstown Inc., has distributed more than $27,000 to local charities and scholarships to Youngstown State University students from the 2011 Italian Fest. The charities are Second Harvest Food Bank, The Rescue Mission, Beatitude House, Rich Center for Autism, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Akron Children’s Hospital Boardman, among others.
