St. Johns Commandery 20, Knights Templar of Youngstown, conducted its annual installation of officers recently at the Masonic Temple in Youngstown. Taking office were Robert K. Ellway, eminent commander; Dominic M. Lucarelli, generalissimo; James A. Streeky, captain general; Timothy N. Flack, senior warden; D. Joseph Moore, junior warden; Richard J. Brady, recorder; Timothy A. Johnson, treasurer; Zel E. Bush, prelate; Gary S. Farrant, standard bearer; James B. Parker IV, sword bearer; and William M. Weems, trustee. Sitting, from left to right, are Lucarelli, Ellway and Streeky, and standing are Dale E. Hawkins, Farrant, Parker, Brady, Moore, Bush, Flack and Johnson.

In keeping with one of its mottos, “to educate the orphan,” Canfield Odd Fellows Lodge presented its 2012 scholarship to William “Bill” Magnuson, second from the left, front, whose father, the late Bob Magnuson, was an outstanding Canfield patrolman. Bill, who is actively involved in community service organizations, plans to attend Youngstown State University to study law enforcement, hoping to follow his father’s footsteps and work for the city of Canfield. The lodge, which received its Canfield charter in 1850, has presented a scholarship to a deserving graduate for the last seven years. Presenting the scholarship is John Weaver, lodge vice grand, and also in the front row are Sandy Magnuson, Bill’s mother, and lodge members George Makar and Lloyd Schooley. Standing in back, from left, are Richard Eberth, Ellen McCreary, Howard Young, Al Thonpson and Everett McCreary. Not pictured is lodge member Sparky Ashby.

A flag-leasing project is being sponsored by Centenary United Methodist Church in East Palestine. Representatives of the church are David Mollenkopf, who installs flags; Clyde and Michele Hoffmeister, co-chairmen of the flag-leasing committee; and the Rev. Mark McTrusty, pastor.

Gina Cerimele watches her chip shot on the 10th hole at Diamond Back Golf Course in Canfield during Monday’s girls qualifier for The Greatest Junior Golfer of the Valley golf tournament. Cerimele was among the four golfers to advance to the finals July 21 at Trumbull County Club.
