Peggy Leone, one of the original boaters who started the Fourth of July Guilford Lake Boat Parade 30 years ago, holds the “retired” traveling Commodore’s Cup that she received from Bob Gause, Guilford Lake Civic Association president. Leone and others were recognized at the annual awards picnic at the state park pavilion. Joyce Lasky, 2012 commodore, recognized winners in the “Your Favorite Holiday” event. Winners are the Halloween boat of Jason and Carol Brown, first place; April Fool’s Day boat of Madalyn James, second; Easter by the Marc Bloor family, third; and St. Patrick’s Day by Rilla Gill, fourth. A new traveling Commodore’s Cup was given to the Browns and Nathan and Angela Benner.

At a June 13th installation dinner, the Youngstown Mothers of Twins Club awarded its annual $500 scholarship to Scott Brandenstein, a junior enrolled in Youngstown State University’s business program. He is the son of George and Sue Brandenstein. He is pictured here with his mother, who has been a member of the club for 22 years. The club meets the second Wednesday of the month, September through June, at the Davidson-Becker Family Center in Struthers.
