JWL event benefits group: The Junior Women’s League of Canfield hosted a wine and beer taste Jan. 29 at Vintage Estate, South Avenue, Boardman. Proceeds benefited the Down Syndrome Association of Mahoning Valley. A checkfor $840 was presented to Michele Jones, center, president of the Down Syndrome Association. The Columbiana County Fair Board honored Julie Herron on Jan. 25 for her 12 years of service to the county 4-H programs and Junior Fair. Don Humphrey Jr., above, president of the fair board, presented Herron with a token of appreciation. She retired Jan. 31, and a farewell open house took place in her honor at the extension office.

Possessions presented a fashion show at the event and sold accessories.

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Bond’s class at St. Patrick School in Hubbard acted out the classic children’s nursery rhyme, “The Queen of Hearts” as part of their Valentine’s Day celebrations. Classmates recited the verse while others took turns at the acting. Participating were, left to right, Ava Lengyel, Anthony Carter and Lauren Murcko.

James Mullarkey, 16, of Canfield plans to build a 9/11 memorial at St. Michael Church in Canfield as his Eagle Scout project. Mullarkey plans to raise at least $4,000 to erect a 25-foot flagpole and memorial stone to honor those who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the U.S.
David Hall, Girard city engineer, holds a frame depicting three of the nine planes he flew during and just after World War II when he was in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Hall has been with the city for 12 years.
