JWL event benefits group: The Junior Women’s League of Canfield hosted a wine and beer taste Jan. 29 at Vintage Estate, South Avenue, Boardman. Proceeds benefited the Down Syndrome Association of Mahoning Valley. A checkfor $840 was presented to Michele Jones, center, president of the Down Syndrome Association.  The Columbiana County Fair Board honored Julie Herron on Jan. 25 for her 12 years of service to the county 4-H programs and Junior Fair. Don Humphrey Jr., above, president of the fair board, presented Herron with a token of appreciation. She retired Jan. 31, and a farewell open house took place in her honor at the extension office.

 Kindergarten students in Mrs. Bond’s class at St. Patrick School in Hubbard acted out the classic children’s nursery rhyme, “The Queen of Hearts” as part of their Valentine’s Day celebrations.
