Youngstown businessman Bruce Zoldan, a partner in the Team Valor horse racing consortium, holds the bridle of Went the Day Well, the team’s contender in the 138th Kentucky Derby. Last year, Team Valor’s Animal Kingdom won the 137th Kentucky Derby as a 21-1 longshot. Went the Day Well also is expected to be a 20-1 longshot in this year’s race, which is Saturday at Churchill Downs.

The Penguins split with the Flames, dropping the first game 11-8, but winning the nightcap 9-7. Thomas went 4-for-8 on the day to tie the team’s single-season hits record of 64 set by Amanda Berry in 2003.

The $1.7 million reconfiguration of the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown’s Motherhouse includes common areas that will be used for socialization and relaxation once the area is completed. Architects came up with a plan in which two sections of the floor were removed from the second floor, opening up a two-story atrium that allows light to shine down into the lower level.
