Alumni honor the Hecks: The Springfield Local Alumni Association bestowed its Appreciation Award to Ed and Shirley Heck, above, left, at the annual dinner Sept. 25. Both were involved with 4-H leadership. He served eight years on the Springfield Local Board of Education, and she was the first elected female trustee for Springfield Township. Her leadership included spearheading the projects of water and sewer services to Petersburg and directing the 2003 township bicentennial celebrations. Her efforts as trustee included strong support for the education of township children. Alumni president Zonda Haase, right, presents the plaque.

Youngstown Fire Department and State Fire Marshal personnel investigate the scene of a fatal fire at 3144 Pine Hollow Drive in Youngstown on Monday night. Firefighters responded to a call at 6:55 p.m. and pulled a man from the house who later died. The man was identified as Andrew Douglas Jr., 45, who lived at the address.
