Winning works exhibited: The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing the nation’s outstanding teen artists and writers, named the winners of its 2011 awards following a local scholastic art show hosted by Youngstown State University at the McDonough Museum. Eighth-grade students from Holy Family School in Poland receiving awards were, from left in front, Kayleigh Burke, Silver Key; Alexis Ohlin, Honorable Mention; Mackenzie Wardle, Gold Medal; and Danielle Wainio, Honorable Mention, and in back, Mackenzie Metzinger, Silver Key; Olivia Proia, Silver Key; Hallie Yerian, Gold Medal; and Marisa Stephenson, Silver Key. Since 1923 the organization has recognized more than 13 million teen artists and writers in grades 7 through 12, who submitted their work in more than 25 categories, including film and animation, video game design, poetry, sculpture, fashion design, journalism, photography and science fiction.
