Breaking language barrier: Each year the Gamma Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority contributes funds to the English Center of Youngstown. Making the presentation at a recent meeting to Leslie Kiske of Poland, at left, is Betsey White, chapter president, also of Poland. The funds will be used to teach the English language to foreign-speaking adults who are studying to become American citizens. At the meeting Lana Whitehead of Canfield, coordinator and intervention specialist in the Center for Student Progress at Youngstown State University, explained the role of the center in promoting the academic success of YSU students.

Ford Motor Co. said Saturday, March 26, 2011, it will idle their plant in Genk for five days, trying to conserve supplies of Japanese parts that could run low following an earthquake and tsunami. Ford spokesman Todd Nissen said the plant will close beginning April 4. The company had planned to idle the plant in May for another reason. But it moved up the date after auto parts suppliers in Japan were damaged by the twin disaster on March 11.

Robin Rockney, a senior at Canfi eld High School, was accepted into the 2011 Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. Her work titled “Robin and The Bird” will be on display along with other winners from around the state in the James A. Rhodes State Tower from April 10 to May 12. There also will be an awards ceremony April 10 at the Riff e Center Capitol Theatre.
