The Argus Ladies Association met June 12 at Argus Park in Canfield for the group’s annual picnic. The group, which was formed in 1960, is made up of widows of past Master Masons. Officers are June Williams, president; June Hill, secretary/treasurer; and Dawn Crosby, coordinator. Good sportsmanship: Chase Brooks, left, and Maddie Leek, eighth-graders at Holy Family School in Poland, received the George Mahl Sportsmanship Award at the Athletic Awards Banquet in May at the Holy Family Parish Center. The award, which is earned through votes by fellow classmates, is given annually to two Holy Family School athletes.

Novel destinations: Monica Butler of Newton Falls was the first week’s winner of Newton Falls Public Library’s Adult Summer Reading Novel Destinations activities. More prizes will be awarded during the summer at the library, at 204 S. Canal Street.

A cultural experience: Seventh-graders at Holy Family School in Poland took part in May in International Day. The event was organized by Linda Taylor, who teaches history and social studies to Grades 6-8. Students learned about a variety of cultures and traditions, then brought in food special to them. A gift to Sojourner House: The Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #213 in Youngstown donated $800 recently to Sojourner House. The funds were raised over the past year by the group, which has donated to the Youngstown facility, its “President’s Charity,” since 2006. Above, Cindy Long, president of F.O.E.
