A broken switch on a transformer caused power to be lost at Youngstown City Hall. Two backup generators provided electricity for the building though they didn’t help the entire structure. The problem also led city council to cancel its Wednesday meeting.

An unidentified person is loaded into an ambulance immediately after the explosion. It is unclear if the person was injured from debris when the house blew up about 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Halo, struck by a vehicle over the Memorial Day weekend, continues to make progress from her injuries. A group called For the Dogs Animal Rescue, which uses donated money help injured strays who end up at the pound, arranged vet care for her.

Cameron Shull, 8, a third-grader, was sworn in as an honorary Air Force Reserve 2nd Lieutenant and fitted with a replica of an air crew flight suit as part of the 910th Airlift Wing’s Pilot for a Day program. Cameron is being treated for cerebral palsy at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.

Mahoning County’s new treasurer Judge James Lanzo of Struthers Municipal Court, right, administered the oath of office to Mahoning County’s new treasurer Dan Yemma at a ceremony Wednesday inside the county courthouse. Between them is Yemma’s mother, Emily. Yemma was selected last week by county Democratic Party precinct committee members to replace Lisa Antonini, who resigned in May after being charged by the federal government with taking and failing to report a $3,000 cash contribution for her 2008 campaign. Yemma, who was chief deputy treasurer, will serve the remainder of Antonini’s term, which expires in September 2013. Yemma has said he will run for a full four-year term next year.
