Recently, the Youngstown Chapter of The Links Inc. honored Dr. Glenda Newell-Harris, national vice president from the Alameda Contra-Costa chapter of California. The event took place at the Avalon Golf and Country Club-Squaw Creek in Vienna. Founded in 1946, the Links comprises women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of black people and others of African ancestry. The national organization has given more than $24 million to charitable causes. From left to right are Links members Marge Staples, Dr. Newell-Harris and Dr. Krishmu Shipmon, chapter president, as the key to the city is presented to the honoree.
