Shriners are there for children: Members of the Youngstown Shrine Club received thanks from the Blakeman family, of Boardman, for its donation of a state-of-the-art neuromuscular stimulator to help young Rio Blakeman walk more normally and have a good experience in school. Rio has a range of motion disability and needs the stimulator, a new technology that most insurances do not yet cover. From left to right are Steve Withers, on the Board of Governors of Shriners Hospital for Children, in Erie; Julie Blakeman, Dan Blakeman, Rio, Jay Jones, president of the Youngstown Shrine Club; and John Miller, director of children services for the Youngstown club. The Youngstown Shrine Club supports both the Erie hospital and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for burns. The Youngstown Shrine Club provides financial support and free transportation for children and their families to all 22 Shrine hospitals.
