Young at heart: Residents of the Century House of Salem celebrated Valentine’s Day with a special dinner served to each resident on their own Valentine heart plate, along with a heart of chocolates. Activities for the residents’ enjoyment included Valentine games, stories and riddles. In the afternoon the residents also were treated to a hand massage for their relaxation while enjoying the warmth of the home’s Valentine tree. An Indian family who were in Libya arrive after being evacuated from Tripoli, because of the ongoing strife, at Indira Gandhi International airport, in New Delhi, India, Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011. The first batch of nearly 300 Indians evacuated from strife-torn Libya landed in New Delhi aboard a special Air India flight close to midnight Saturday. Never at a loss for words: Struthers Rotary Club is continuing its participation in the Dictionary Project by delivering dictionaries to fourth-grade students in area schools. The goal of the program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers and resourceful learners. Audience is spellbound: Although they were too young to compete in the official spelling bee at St. Patrick School in Hubbard, this group of students from grades one through three lined up to demonstrate their spelling skills as older students, in the background, prepared for the local spelling bee. Walking to fight cancer: At St. Patrick School in Hubbard, students, faculty and families continued their tradition of helping others as they kicked off their annual Catholic Schools Week celebration this week. The school started the week with the annual Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. The Ealy family coordinated this year’s event. The opening ceremonies speaker was Barbara Wheeler, grandmother of first-grader Jayden Johnston, who escorted her to the podium. Mrs. Wheeler is an 18-month cancer survivor. The school raised $1,120 for the American Cancer Society.
