Leetonia Community Public Library, 181 Walnut St., is sponsoring an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Snacks and punch will be served at 1 p.m., and an ugly Christmas sweater contest, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, will be at 2. Singing will begin at 3 with (standing, left to right), Jody Lewis and Niki Slaven and (seated, left to right) Sandy Huston, Daniel Huston and Jim Lewis. Children will be asked to give Mrs. Clause a first name, and when she arrives, her top three favorites will be announced and prizes will be given. Present at the library during the holiday season is a box for Toys for Tots, a mitten tree and a donation tree to benefit the library, sponsored by the Friends.

Birthday celebration is a dream come true: Shepherd of the Valley encourages residents to participate in its “Second Wind Dreams” program, which highlights the positive aspects of aging. When asked her “dream,” SOV-Poland resident Gert Host simply said that she would like to see her 84-year old niece who lives in Pittsburgh. Gert’s dream was fulfilled when her niece, Dorothy Rider, Dorothy’s husband, Edson, her sister Glennis and six other family members gathered to celebrate her 95th birthday.
