It's been a year and a half since Joe Kaluza and his family - wife Lisa and daughter Tiffany - moved into the Ivanhoe Avenue home custom-built for them by local contractors and volunteers. The home is equipped to help Joe move freely and to interact with his family. Kaluza, former manager of the former KFC on Youngstown's South Side, was shot by a robber March 24, 2008, as he left the restaurant.

Residents of Victoria House Assisted Living in Austintown and The Inn at Christine Valley in Youngstown were treated to the music of the Jim Frank Trio at a recent Austintown Township Park Summer Concert Series concert while concert-goers were treated to the residents’ art exhibit. The concert series partners with the Briarfield Health Care Centers, which owns Victoria House and The Inn, for an evening of enjoying the arts.

The League of Women Voters of Trumbull County sponsored a basket raffle at Cortland’s “Summer Sizzle” Aug. 5 to raise money to print its “Voter Information Guide.” The guide identifies candidates, upcoming ballot issues and candidates’ views on those issues. Winner of the basket was Marjorie Haidet of Youngstown.
