Gregory Carbon, almost 5, of Boardman, and his mother, Sharon Carbon, were on hand for the presentation of more than $1 million to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley in Boardman from the Kikel Charitable Trust. Greg had his tonsils and adenoids removed in February at the hospital’s pediatric surgery unit, which was named The Kikel Center for Pediatric Surgery in honor of the gift. Mrs. Carbon said Tuesday her son received great treatment from start to finish.

Firefighter Gary Howell of the Youngstown Fire Department inspects the scene of an accident. Three people were hospitalized after a three-car accident on Interstate 680 northbound about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. A woman was driving with an infant southbound near the state Route 711 ramp when she lost control of her red pickup truck, hit the median and flipped the truck, hitting a vehicle headed northbound. The northbound SUV was then lightly hit from behind by another truck. The woman, the baby and the woman driving the northbound vehicle were all taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Police said everyone was expected to fully recover.

Keeping Someplace Safe: In a ceremony at Packard Music Hall on July 13, Packed House Productions Inc., an Ohio nonprofit organization, presented a $40,000 charitable donation, in goods and services, to Someplace Safe of Warren. The funds came from a spring benefit concert on St. Patrick’s Day, which featured 38 Special with special guests Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers. Packed House Productions is providing Someplace Safe with a new server and six computer workstations, including installation and training, and a new state-of-the art security and video monitoring system for the facility. Someplace Safe is the only domestic violence agency that serves Trumbull County. Dr. Jim DeVengencie, president and CEO of Packed House, and his wife, Dr. Laura Pall DeVengencie, vice president, presented the check to officials of Someplace Safe.
