Joshua Rowland, 14, of Canfield, was sworn-in Wednesday as an honorary Air Force Reserve 2nd Lieutenant and “Pilot for a Day.” Rowland, a Canfield High School freshman, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma two years ago, but has been cancer free for about a year.

Members of the Rotary Club of Austintown and of the Fitch Interact Club spent a recent Saturday morning cleaning up the Kirk Road area, from state Route 46 to Whispering Pines Drive. Among those participating in the 10-year-long project were, from left, front row, Rebecca Leonard, Sammi Devenport and Christine Holmes, and in back, Courtney Francis, Summer Tarr, Brianna Traylor and David Dalvin. In cooperation with the Green Team the cleanup crew not only picked up the debris, but also separated the recyclable items from the trash. As a result they accumulated three bags of recyclables and ten bags of trash.
