The Ponderosa Park venue is disappearing. The stage that brought top-name country and western stars to the area for decades will go dark for the last time in June.

Little did friends Ruth Williamson, left, and Laurie Coy, right, know that, when they had their children at the same time in 1992, the two girls would grow up to be co-valedictorians at Columbiana High School. Lauren Houck walks across the stage to get a red rose after being handed her diploma during Columbiana High School's graduation program at Harvey S. FIrestone Park on Sunday. The seniors were later asked to present their flowers to a loved one in the audience who the felt helped them the most to succeed. A total of 66 students received their diplomas.

The graduates of Columbiana High School show their excitement at completing their senior year as they toss their caps into the air during commencement exercises Sunday at Firestone Park. Mother Nature provided a beautiful warm, sunny day for the event. This year's senior class had 66 members. As part of the ceremony, students presented red roses to the person who most helped them succeed.

Columbiana's Nick Melone ran away with three district titles at the Division III district track meet May 21 at Springfield High School. He placed first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and helped the Clippers claim the 4x200-meter relay title.

Tanya Tucker is well known for her singing, but she apparently has a talent for drawing as well as witnessed by the drawing accompanying her backstage signature at Ponderosa Park in Salem. An effort is afoot to save the backstage signatures of numerous signers who left their names on wooden walls and doors at the park which is closing.

Next month will mark 16 years since Jackie Beavers pitched a 5-0 win over LaGrange Keystone in Ashland to give Champion a Div. II softball championship.
