The weather may not have been balmy, but pupils at Struthers Elementary School braved the elements the week of May 10 as they celebrated Right to Read Week with a beach theme. Children in kindergarten through fourth grade participated in several literacy activities and joined in the beach theme by wearing beach hats, visors, sunglasses and T-shirts that could be read and lying on beach towels to enjoy reading some of their favorite books. Each class also enjoyed a guest reader from the community as well as “mystery readers” from Struthers Middle School.

This fatal accident closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 for several hours Monday. Three people in a sport-utility vehicle were killed afternoon when their vehicle was hit from behind by a tractor-trailer as traffic was slowing down for roadwork. The crash pinned the SUV between the truck and another tractor-trailer in front of it in Hubbard Township.

When they found the church locked up for the season, she hopped the fence and tried every door, but with no luck. Fortunately, they found a priest in town later that week who had the keys. A spaghetti dinner April 25 was a benefit for Jordan Dubose, a cancer patient who is undergoing chemotherapy. Dubose, a junior at Ursuline High School, is an honor student, a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club and the basketball team. Admistrators, faculty, parents and the Ursuline High School students above served 600 pasta dinners at the event and also conducted a benefit Chinese auction. Contributions for Dubose and his family can be sent to St. Joseph the Provider School or to Huntington Bank.
