Gloria Joy Polisso of Boardman is a volunteer with Canine Crusaders, and she’s holding one of the pups at the Mahoning County Dog Pound. These volunteers visit the pound during kennel hours to walk the dogs, and work with other rescue groups to try to save the dogs there.

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Longtime lodge members honored Argus Masonic Lodge 545 of Canfield paused during its Feb. 12 meeting at the lodge to pay tribute to 18 longtime members. Recognized during the event for their years of service were: William K. Dressel of Florida and Willard H. Hughes of Canfield, 65 years; Samuel C. Boak of Canfield, M. Dudley Buck of Youngstown and Harold W. Kaser of Delaware, Ohio, 60; William L. Ewald of Ashland, Va., David R. Gibson of Columbiana, Harold J. Grove of Everett, Pa., and Gary L. Smith of Canfield, 50; Jon R. Anstrom, Henry J. Domkowski, Robert J. Jones and Gale W. Reedy, all of Youngstown, Michael D. Boda, Walter A. Coy and David A. Jenkins, all of Canfield, Charles H. Day of Mineral Ridge and Terrance J. Reese of North Lima, all 25. Each honoree received a gold pin, and the 25-year awards were presented by Donald Huntley, who was master of the lodge in 1985. Martin R. Schuller was among the guests. Denny Furman was master of ceremonies. Among those participating in the event were, from left, R. Christopher Gillam, master of the lodge; Huntley, Jones, Reedy, Reese and Schuller.
