The Vindicator Lesson in Aeronautics Thirty five members of Youngstown Civil Air Patrol, ARS Composite Squadron, toured the Goodyear Wingfoot Lake Airship Facility in Suffield on Jan. 31. The group viewed a video on the history of Goodyear’s airships, learned the blimp is made of a rubber-like material about as thick as a rubber band, and viewed a gondola and control surfaces that are being refurbished. A prisoner housing unit is empty at the county’s minimum-security misdemeanor jail in downtown Youngstown. Mahoning County Sheriff Randall A. Wellington proposes to close that jail as an overnight facility. The closing results from revenue projections for 2010 that fall far short of projections. The sheriff’s department is expected to lose between $4 million and $5.7 million this year.
